Stepping On - Building Confidence and Reducing Falls
Funding from the Community Health Endowment of Lincoln enables us to offer classes at no cost.Stepping On is a community based fall prevention program aimed at educating participants and building confidence to reduce or eliminate falls. Classes meet for two hours one time per week for seven weeks. Participants learn the most up to date information about fall prevention with people their own age. Workshop topics include simple and fun balance and strength exercises and the roles vision, medication, safe walking outside and footwear play in fall prevention.
This program was developed by Dr. Lindy Clemson of Sydney, Australia, to help older adults learn ways to prevent falls. It was brought to the United States by Dr. Jane Mahoney, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging, with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and other partners. The research has found that people who complete the workshop have a 31% reduced rate of falls. Contact Aging Partners Health & Fitness at (402) 441-7575 to register for the workshop.
