Prairie Building Addition Earns LEED Certification

Nate Maniktala, left, a board member of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Flatwater Chapter, presents a plaque to
Mayor Beutler at an October 16 news conference. An addition to the Pioneers Park Nature Center’s Prairie Building,
completed in September 2007, was honored with the LEED® Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
LEED is the Council’s system for rating the design and construction of energy efficient buildings. The Prairie
Building is the first City of Lincoln building to receive the certification.

27th Annual Project Impact

Project Impact on September 4. Since 1981, Union College students, faculty and staff have started the school year
with this annual day of volunteer community service. At left are Union College students Chad Chaffee and Shelina

Breaking Ground

Mayor Chris Beutler (third from left) is joined by Nebraska Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy, and representatives of Perot
Systems, Koll Development Corporation and the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development in breaking ground on
Perot Systems’ new $27.5 million, 150,000 square foot corporate facility that will be home to 900 employees. The
project is currently the largest private construction project in Nebraska seeking LEED certification as a “green”
building project.
