This commission reviews staff actions, educates the public on discriminatory issues, enforces Title 11 of the Municipal Code, issues publications, formulates policies and makes recommendations to City officers. It adopts rules and regulations, reviews staff investigations of cases and acts on recommendations.
Special Requirements: Must be residents of Lincoln.
The Council fosters the development of a comprehensive and coordinated service system for older persons within the counties of Butler, Fillmore, Lancaster, Polk, Saline, Saunders, Seward and York. Members are appointed by the Mayor, City Council and individual County Board.
Special Requirements: Residents within the eight county area. * Nine are appointed to represent Lincoln-Lancaster County.
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Board of Health promotes and provides health protection to the residents of Lincoln and Lancaster County. It serves as a policy-making body assisted by Health Department staff. Members are appointed by the Mayor, City Council and County Board.
Special Requirements: Must be residents of Lancaster County and include medical and dental representatives, one Council member and one County Commissioner.
This Board is responsible for the general supervision and control over the Community Health Endowment. The Community Health Endowment (CHE) of Lincoln is a municipal fund of the City of Lincoln which was created as a result of the sale of Lincoln General Hospital on October 31, 1997. The goal of CHE is to make Lincoln, Nebraska, the healthiest community in the nation.
Special Requirements: The 12 trustees shall include individuals from the health care community, business and finance community and other community stakeholders including, but not necessarily limited to, minorities, under served populations, individuals with disabilities, neighborhood representatives, community volunteers and representatives from the religious and educational communities. At least five must have a recognized background in public health, medicine, human services, registered nursing, mental health, dentistry or related fields. The Health Director and the presidents of the BryanLGH Health System and the St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center shall be ex officio members of the Board.
The Keno Preventtion Fund was created in 1994 when Keno was approved by the City Council and County Board. It accesses 5% of the gross proceeds from Keno. Of these proceeds, 40% is invested and 60% is distributed twice a year, totalling around $80,000. Eligible candidates must follow the written guidelines available on the Human Services Web site.
Special Requirements: Members must be residents of Lancaster County and have an understanding of "prevention" and its values.
