Franklin Heights Landmark District

Franklin Heights Landmark District

Boundary/Address:
South 24th to Pepper Avenue, South to Sumner Streets
Designation:
Local Landmark
Out-of-town investors platted this residential area in 1889, but only a few homes were built before the economic depression of the 1890s. The Woods Brothers acquired most of the lots and began marketing the area in 1906. Franklin Heights features a rich assortment of large and smaller homes, built side-by-side in the early 20th century. The district also has a small commercial corner at 24th and Sumner Streets, where a streetcar stop formerly served the neighborhood.
