PROCEDURES FOR OBTAINING SIGN PERMITS
- In most cases you will be required to procure a sign contractor registered
in the City of Lincoln.
(For exception see “Most Frequently Asked Questions”)
- Meet with the sign contractor at the jobsite to discuss your needs.
This will allow the sign contractor to determine what options are available
to you.
- Check the zoning to determine what the district will allow for pole
sign, monument signs, or wall and projecting signs. Many districts allow
roof signs in lieu of the wall signs on that elevation. or in lieu of
the pole or monument signs.
- Fill out an application, complete with street address, suite #, legal
description, type of sign, business name, size of sign, owners name
and address, signature of applicant & date. Pay sign permit fee
at this time.
- Submit two sets of plans, complete with elevation view of the sign
(and building, if a wall sign) showing height and width of sign. If
sign is a pole or monument sign, then indicate overall height of sign,
pole size, footing size, and a site plan showing location of sign with
setbacks from property lines.
- Sign permit and plans will be reviewed for compliance to the sign
code. If approved, one stamped, signed copy of plans will be mailed
to applicant with receipt.
- It is the responsibility of the applicant to call and request footing
and final inspections when required.
Signs must be installed within 120 days of issuance to avoid
expiration.
