Water Heaters

A variety of hazards may be linked to the water heater. These hazards are excessively high temperatures, the potential for explosions and, in the case of fuel-fired water heaters, the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning due to improper combustion and venting.

"Spencer, Oklahoma

7 Dead, 34 Injured in Water Heater Blast"

Asphyxiation

Annual statistics show that 900 people are killed and over 10.000 are made ill because of improper venting of fuel burning appliance. Many of these hazards are prevented by the proper installation of the water heater appliance and by the proper education of the consumer on how it performs.

There have been cases where explosions have occurred, when an unsuspecting building owner plugged the safety relief valve discharge pipe "because it was dripping." The line was "dripping", because the valve was working properly and was relieving the excessive temperatures and pressures that had built up in the appliance.
