The written examination consists of a series of multiple choice questions designed to test important cognitive abilities and personality attributes which are necessary for effective job performance as a firefighter. Each applicant will receive a Study Guide.
Each candidate must complete all phases of the physical ability test successfully as prescribed by Lincoln Fire & Rescue event criteria. Events include: donning Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), aerial climb, hoseline drag, balance beam walk, stair climb, and weight carry.
The top candidates will be interviewed by Lincoln Fire & Rescue personnel.

Employee Benefits
Wage and benefit packages are determined through
negotiations.
Working Hours
Shift work averages 56 hours per week on a 24 hour shift basis. LFR employees work thirteen days every other day and then have eight consecutive days off known as Kelly days. This cycle takes a total of 21 days.
Hourly Rate During Training
Firefighter Trainee $12.099/hr.
Annual Wages
Firefighter pay range: $38,683 - $54,929
Individuals with an EMS certification for paramedic will receive an additional $2.35/hr after completing LFR system certification program.
Clothing and Equipment
Annual clothing allowance of $409. All firefighting protective equipment is provided by the City.
Holiday Pay
Twelve hours of additional pay in the pay period for 10 holidays annually.

Tuition Reimbursement
Tuition reimbursement of up to $770 each fiscal year.
Life, Health, Dental, Vision Insurance
City provides $30,000 of life insurance. Employee may purchase more at his/her option after successful completion of the six month probationary period.
Health insurance is available after completion of ninety days of employment. The City will pay 98.5% of the monthly premium for single plan, and 84% family and 2/4 party.
The City will pay 97.5% of the monthly premium for single dental plan, and 85.5% for 2/4 or family plan.
Vision is also offered.
The City also offers a flexible spending account.

The City will pay $50 per pay period into a post employment health plan.

A defined benefit plan providing a life annuity equal to 64 percent of the member’s highest one year of pay for retirements occurring after age 50 and 25 years of service.
