Fireworks start fire, destroy apartment house
By the Lincoln Journal Star
An older house sectioned off into about seven apartments was destroyed by a fireworks-related fire Tuesday night. Total loss was estimated at about $330,000.
The fire at 1511 D St. started when fireworks ignited dry leaves under the front porch, said Derald Murrell, deputy fire chief.
The porch fire spread to the front of the house and into the attic. Firefighters responded to the fire about 8 p.m. and were still at the scene at 10:30 p.m.
No one was injured. The residents of the apartments were outside shooting or watching fireworks, said Murrell.
But the house, valued at about $180,000, and its contents, valued at about $150,000, were a total loss.
