Cook thanks firefighters and paramedics for saving mother
- Deena Winter, Lincoln Journal Star
Councilman Jonathan Cook took a few minutes out of Monday’s City Council meeting to honor five firefighters and paramedics for doing their jobs well.
This time, it was personal.
Cook’s mother suffered a cardiac arrest on Dec. 21, collapsing in her home. Cook’s sister called 911 and first responders arrived within three-and-a-half minutes and “restarted her heart,” Cook said.
“Many people don’t survive this kind of cardiac arrest, but my mother did and is having an excellent recovery,” said Cook, whose father recently died. “They were there for her just as they are for every citizen of Lincoln.”
He thanked them for saving his mother’s life by presenting them with a painting of a firefighter battling a blaze.
