OPERATOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Never operate the machine when you are tired, angry, emotionally disturbed, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medication, or anything that could affect your vision, alertness, coordination or judgement.
- Use safety footwear, snug fitting clothing, safety goggles, and hearing and head protection devices and gloves.
- Always use caution when handling fuel. Move the power cutter machine at least 10 feet from the fueling point before starting engine.
- Do not allow other persons to be near the machine when starting or cutting. Keep bystanders and animals out of the work area.
- Never start cutting until you have a clear work area and secure footing.
- Always hold the unit firmly with both hands when the wheel is rotating. Use a firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the handles.
- Keep all parts of your body away from the rotating wheel.
- Never operate without the wheel guard.
- Do not cock, wedge or jam the wheel in the cut.
- Before starting, make sure that the wheel is not in contact with anything.
- Never operate a cutting machine that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or not completely and securely assembled. Be sure that the wheel stops moving when the trigger is released.
- Always carry the machine with the engine stopped and the muffler away from your body.
- Be sure that the wheel has stopped, before the machine is put down.
- Keep the handles dry and clean.
- The cutter wheel should be removed from the cutting machine when it is transported or stored.
- All service other than items listed in the maintenance instructions on page 33 should be performed by competent service personnel.
- Operate the machine only in well ventilated areas. Failure to use the power cutter in a well ventilated area can lead to serious injury or death.
- Do not operate a cutting machine unless specifically trained to do so.
- For health reasons, never cut material containing asbestos.
- When cutting concrete, stone, etc, sprinkle water to bind the dust.
ASSEMBLY/MAINTENANCE
The Cutting Wheel-is tightened with the fixed wrench that is delivered with the power cutter. Use only cutting wheels intended for hand held cutting and approved for the speed marked on the machine.
The spindle is secured by means of a pin which is pushed in as far as possible. The wheel is tightened clockwise.
WARNING; NEVER OPERATE WITHOUT THE WHEEL GUARD.
The guard should be adjusted so that it's rear section is close to the workpiece. Particles, dust or sparks from cutting are then collected by the guard and directed away from the operator. By using the knob the guard can be loosened and adjusted to the desired position.
The Drive Belt is completely enclosed and well protected from dust and dirt as well as from mechanical damage during cutting work. When tensioning the drive belt loosen the nuts holding the cutter arm. Adjust the tensioning screw so that the nut is positioned at the arrow marked on the cover. Shake the arm to ensure that the spring can stretch the belt. The belt has then automatically the right tension. Tighten the nuts holding the cutter arm.
To replace the belt loosen the two nuts and then the tensioning screw until the tension is released. Remove the nuts and the belt cover. The cutting arm can now be removed from the engine. Remove the rear cover and the drive belt.
A new belt must be re-tightened after approx. 30 minutes of operation and then check the tension daily by loosening the nuts and check the indicator.
To stretch the belt, loosen the nuts retaining the cutting arm. When the nuts has loosened the belt is tensioned by the automatic belt tensioner. Shake the arm to ensure that the spring can stretch the belt.
WARNING: THE ENGINE IS LUBRICATED BY THE OIL IN THE FUEL MIXTURE.
Use fuel with octane rating of a minimum of 91R with leaded fuel and minimum 95R with unleaded fuel.
For best performance use partner oil. Mixture ratio 2% (1:50) (1:40 US only).
If no partner oil is available, use a good quality two stroke oil according to service classification TSC-3. Mixture ratio is 4% (1:25). Never use any oils formulated for 4 cycle engines. The gas and oil must be thoroughly mixed before being put into the fuel tank.
WARNING: ALWAYS SHUT OFF THE ENGINE BEFORE REFUELING.
Always move the power cutter at least 10 feet from the fueling area before starting.
Be careful when handling fuel. Gas and fumes are extremely explosive. Be aware of fire, explosion, and inhalation hazards.
Fuel Filter
Wipe the area around the fuel cap clean before the filler cap is removed. Dirt in the fuel tank will clog up the fuel filter and cause running interruption.
The filter cartridge cannot be cleaned but must be replaced if it becomes blocked. This replacement should be done once a year.
CONTROLS
- Stop Switch: when the button is pushed to the right, the engine stops. The button remains in this position and must be returned to the left before next start.
- Choke Button: a cold engine is to be started with the choke closed (the button pulled backwards). By pulling the choke, a device on the carburetor will set the throttle control in starting position. When squeezing the throttle control and releasing it, the engine will return to idling speed. To start a warm engine, pull the choke and push it in again. This only activates the throttle control into starting position.
- Throttle Control: the throttle control is used to regulate engine speed and the speed of the cutter wheel.
- Throttle Trigger Lockout: this lockout will prevent the throttle from opening accidentally when the engine is at idling speed. When working with the machine the lockout is released by the hand holding the rear handle.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Make sure the stop switch is in running position (pushed forward). Pull the choke control if the engine is cold. A warm engine can be started without choke. Set the starter throttle catch.
Push in the decompression valve. Be sure that you and the machine are firmly positioned when starting and that the cutting wheel does not touch anything. Pull out the starter handle slowly until the starter pawls engage. Then pull sharply.
WARNING: THE CUTTING WHEEL WILL START TO ROTATE WHEN THE SAW STARTS.
Make sure that the cutting wheel is free running. Push in the choke control immediately when the engine ignites and make repeated starting attempts if necessary. When the engine starts, rapidly give full throttle. The throttle latch will then automatically disengage.
SPARK PLUG
If the engine is low on power, difficult to start or runs poorly at idling speed, always check the spark plug first. If the spark plug is dirty, clean it and check the electrode gap. Readjust if necessary. The correct gap is 0.5 mm. The spark plug should be replaced after about 100 operation hours or earlier if the electrodes are eroded.
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS USE THE RECOMMENDED SPARK PLUG TYPE, CHAMPION RCJ-7Y OR NGK BPMR 7A. Wrong type may cause damage to the cylinder and piston.
WORKING TECHNIQUE
When cutting steel and other metals, always try to maintain high cutting pressure and high wheel speed. Try to get a smallest possible contact point by moving the wheel back and forth in the cut. Always pull the trigger fully when you apply the cutter wheel to the material and regulate the speed of the machine by increasing and decreasing the feed pressure.
When cutting stone, concrete and similar material the wheel should be moved forwards and backwards in the cut to obtain good conduction of heat away from the wheel and a low temperature at the cutting point. Sprinkle water to bind the dust and increase the durability of the wheel.
CARE AND STORAGE
- These saws are rugged and durable. However, since they are used in high speed cutting operations, all service must be done when and how it is supposed to be done so that the saw will operate effectively and safely.
- Always handle saws carefully and store them with the wheels removed. Protect saws from temperature and moisture extremes.
- all wheels should be removed from saw after use and carefully stored.
- special care should be taken with abrasive wheels: wheels must be stored on a firm level surface. If wheels are supplied with blotters, use spacers to keep them flat.
- avoid moisture and temperature extremes.
- remove wheels before moving or transporting saw.
- inspect new wheels for handling or storage damage before use.
