Does KLLCB Care?

In March of 1982, conservative theorists James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling published an article in the Atlantic Monthly introducing a new crime fighting theory known as "Broken Windows". The theory states: "If the first broken window in a building is not repaired, then people who like breaking windows will assume that no one cares about the building and more windows will be broken. Soon the building will have no windows..."

We care because KLLCB wants to avoid the Broken Window theory. The goal of Lincoln & Lancaster County Beautiful program is to educate the public to properly dispose of their trash so Lincoln will avoid this syndrome. Keeping a clean community benefits the environment and the economy. More people will visit if their experience in Lincoln is positive and a clean city helps make a positive impression. A clean community benefits the economy by being attractive to new business and companies, and attractive for people to move into the community. Residents take pride in the city and less littering occurs if litter is not allowed to accumulate.
