Mission
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department provides leadership in promoting environmental and personal
health through health promotion, disease detection, disease prevention, education, and regulation.
In cooperation with community resources, the department as the official agency is responsible for assisting the
community and the citizens to assume responsibility for their health and the health of the community.
Vision
Lincoln and Lancaster County communities are safe, healthy and sustainable. We routinely
practice healthy behaviors and environmental stewardship to improve quality of life.
The Health Department is the catalyst assuring an equitable and culturally competent public
health system within an integrated network of partners. The Department delivers innovative, creative
solutions in a collaborative, cost-effective, efficient and responsive manner.
Goals
- Significantly decrease environmental risk factors and behaviors that adversely affect personal health and environmental quality.
- Diminish chronic disease complications by increasing access to care and early intervention.
- Identify and eliminate barriers to health care in a culturally competent manner.
- Sustain and improve air, land, and water quality.
- Amplify awareness of, support for and participation in the mission and activities of Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Dept.
- Integrate substance abuse and mental health services into public health.
- Extensively reduce the incidence of preventable injury, death, and disease.
- Create active relationships with local business and other organizations in order to leverage human and financial resources, volunteerism, and their collective influence.
- Assure maximum integration, cultural competency, coordination and effectiveness in all public health programming.
- Assure that the services Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Dept., its partners and contractors provide are of the highest quality for all recipients.
- Sustain and improve systems to identify and track existing and emerging health issues.
- Elevate the health status of those with the poorest outcomes to at least that of the majority of the community.
- Test, improve, and strengthen emergency response preparedness.
- Examine, develop, and improve opportunities for interventions through regulatory enforcement when voluntary methods fail.
- Infuse the importance of internal and external workforce development in all Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Dept. activities, and those of its partners and collaborators.
- Ensure that services are made available and accessed at the earliest and most appropriate level.
- Increase personal safety by decreasing abusive behaviors.
