Public health nurses at Nebraska Health Connection/Kids Connection can help answer
questions like what is covered under this type of eligibility and how you get access to care.
Frequently asked questions include:
- What does it mean to be an Eligible Unborn (E.U.) Mom?
E.U. is the type of Medicaid eligibility you have for your unborn baby.
Because you do not qualify for Medicaid yourself, health benefits are provided through your unborn baby. All of the Medicaid
papers you receive will say "Unborn" instead of your name. During the time you are pregnant and for 60 days after the birth
of your baby, you can get all your necessary health care and Medicaid will pay for it.
- What does it mean to be in Medicaid Managed Care?
Medicaid Managed Care is Nebraska Health Connection/Kids Connection (NHC/KC). Since your unborn baby is the one who is insured,
you need to call a public health nurse at NHC/KC to tell them what doctor and health plan you choose for your baby.
- How do I get care?
The public health nurse will ask you what provider you want to see for your prenatal care and contact your baby's health plan.
- What is covered by Medicaid for pregnancy care?
Doctor visits, hospital charges, blood and urine tests, specialist care if needed, ultrasound, medications (including prenatal vitamins),
delivery, post-partum check-up. Additionally, E.U. Mom coverage includes dental exams and treatment, eye exams, mental health counseling,
family planning and circumcision for the baby.
