Bennett Martin Public Library is the headquarters for the Lincoln City Library system. Bennett Martin houses the library's Administration offices, the central Reference Services and Youth Services departments, Technical Processes, Collection Management, and the Building & Grounds department. It also houses special collections that include the Polley Music Library and the Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors.
Bennett S. "Abe" Martin was a leading business, civic, and political figure in Lincoln for many years. He served as Lincoln's mayor from 1956 to 1959 after a term on the city council. Martin and his wife, Dorothy Bridgmon Martin, were noted for their many philanthropies, including the endowment that allowed construction of the library that bears the family name.
