Polk County Senior Services is jointly sponsored by county, State, and Federal funds made available through the Polk County Board of Commissioners and the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging.  Contributions for services and donations also help to support the Program.

Polk County Senior Services

Polk County Senior Services is dedicated to helping older individuals live independently and remain an active and vital part of the Community.  We provide information on the network of services available to older adults and assist individuals and their families in accessing these services.

Polk County Senior Services is open Monday thru Friday from   8:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. except for recognized County Holidays and inclement weather.  If in doubt, please call 402-764-8227 for information.

Senior Centers in Polk County

Polk County Senior Services want to ensure that all older individuals that visit our centers have access to social, educational and recreational programs that help to enhance their quality of life.  Senior Centers in Polk County are located in Osceola, Polk, Shelby and Stromsburg.  A noon meal is available Monday thru Friday at all the centers for a suggested donation for individuals 60 years of age or older.  Meals are also available for Individuals under 60 for a fee.  Please call the center one day in advance to make a reservation. Modified diets are available with a doctor's orders.

There are individual, extenuating circumstances that may qualify someone to receive a noon meal for a suggested donation.  Please call and visit with the Polk County Program Manager for details.

Special services and activities at the Centers include:  Educational presentations, health assessments, regular blood pressure checks, pedicure clinics, exercise classes, craft classes, pool tournaments, bingo, and much more!

Home Delivered Meals

Home Delivered Meals are available throughout Polk County.  Each meal is one-third of the recommended daily nutritional needs for an individual.  HDM are available 7 days a week in the Stromsburg and Osceola area and Monday thru Friday in all other communities.  Modified diets are available with a Doctor's orders.

Call your local Senior Center by 10:00am to order a meal or the day before to set up a schedule for meals.  Call and visit with the Polk County Program Manager for complete details, 402-764-8227.

The Travelers . . .

A 14 passenger van, owned by Polk County Senior Services, is put to good use by providing trips to entertainment and programs in other towns.  There is a fare charge and reservations are necessary.  Call any of the Senior Centers for complete information and schedules.

Busy Wheels

Busy Wheels operates in both Stromsburg and Osceola.  Both have their own governing board and officers.  An individual calls the Senior Center to make arrangements and drivers are dispatched from the Center.  Stromsburg has ten volunteers that drive 1/2 day each week and three relief drivers.  Osceola has three drivers and are looking for more.  This may be just the volunteer position for you!
