Concert Survey Being Distributed In Lincoln

Mayor Don Wesely's Concert and Entertainment Task Force is distributing a survey to gather opinions about concert opportunities in Lincoln. The Lincoln Journal Star ran the survey in its "Ground Zero" section today, and the survey will also appear in the Sunday newspaper April 2. Copies are also being distributed at Pershing and other event sites, on the UNL and Nebraska Wesleyan campuses and other locations. The survey will be available on the city's web site (www.lincoln.ne.gov) next week.

"Mayor Wesely asked our task force to determine if Lincoln has a problem attracting concerts and other entertainment events and if facilities or current policies are creating obstacles," said Task Force Chair Jim Ritzman of Arjay Advertising. "This survey will give us an idea of what kinds of music people want to hear, how much they are willing to pay and what they think of the issues surrounding alcohol being available at concerts."

Those who fill out and return the survey by April 15 will be entered into a drawing for a "Fun in Lincoln" prize package, which will include tickets to local events and other gifts. The survey was developed by the task force with help from Cheryl Wiese, Associate Director of the UNL Bureau of Sociological Research.

The task force has been meeting since January. The group will make its recommendations to the Mayor in mid-May on ways to improve entertainment opportunities in Lincoln.

"I want to thank the Journal Star and the others who are helping to distribute the survey," Mayor Wesely said. "I also want to thank the members of the task force for their hard work. It's a large task force, but each meeting has had excellent attendance, and I think this is an indication of the level of interest in the concert issue in Lincoln."

A list of task force members is attached.
