Mayor Don Wesely today announced a time line that calls for hiring a new Director of Parks and Recreation for the city this summer. Current Director Jim Morgan has accepted a position as Parks Superintendent in Madison, Wisconsin.
"In the last eight years, Jim's hard work, energy and leadership have had a major positive impact on our Parks and Recreation Department and on our city in general," Mayor Wesely said. "He's one of the best in the country at what he does, and we plan to hire a new director who will continue a progressive agenda."
The Madison Common Council will vote on the confirmation of Morgan, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, at its May 2 meeting. With that approval, Morgan's official resignation and 30 days notice will come May 3.
Newspaper advertisements will be place beginning May 7, with publication in professional journals as soon as possible. Applications would be due June 2, and the Personnel Department will review those from June 5 through 16. Top candidates will interview with the Mayor from June 19 through 23, with an announcement scheduled for June 26. The City Council would vote on confirmation the first week of July.
An interim director will be named to fill in until a new permanent director begins work.
