Mayor Don Wesely is inviting everyone in the Lincoln area to the city's annual Fourth of July celebration at Holmes Lake. A day full of activities, food and music for all ages will be capped off with the traditional fireworks display set to music.
"I want to thank the Lincoln Jaycees and area businesses for their support in making this a fun and safe holiday event," Mayor Wesely said. "Because of the dry conditions in the area, some families may be cutting back on their personal fireworks, but we can assure them of a spectacular fireworks show at one of our most beautiful public parks."
Zambelli Internationale will present the fireworks display, with the accompanying music broadcast on KTGL-FM, 92.9 The Eagle. The Eagle is the official radio station for the Fourth of July celebration, and the station will broadcast live during the celebration from Holmes Lake near the old marina area.
StarTran, in cooperation with the Jaycees, will again provide free public shuttle service between Seacrest Field (72nd and "A" streets) and Holmes Park (Normal and Van Dorn intersection) from 3 to 11 p.m. The last bus will leave Seacrest for Holmes Lake at 8:15 p.m. Limited Handi-Van service is also available for eligible individuals, and reservations can be made through StarTran at 476-1234. For those unable to make it to Holmes Park, 5 CITY-TV, cable channel 5, will carry the fireworks display live.
Seven bands will perform throughout the day and evening in lot #3. Bands performing from 12:30 through 5:30 are, in order, Jumpin' Kate, Lunicie, Patty Beckman Project, 4th Quarter Jinx and Deep Blue Heaven. At 5:30 p.m., Status State will perform as the opening act for the featured band, One More Time. One More Time will perform three sets from 7 p.m. until just before the fireworks begin. The performances are sponsored by Eye Care Specialities.
Other major sponsors for the celebration are Pepsi, Embassy Suites, Wal-Mart and MindVision/eSellerate.
Other events include:
A variety of food will be available at lot #4 on the north shore throughout the day. The Jaycees will operate an information booth near the old marina, and the Red Cross will have first aid available.
In case of bad weather, the fireworks display will take place July 5th at Holmes Lake beginning at dusk. No other events would be rescheduled to the 5th.
