Mayor Don Wesely said last night’s approval by the City Council and County Board of Comprehensive Plan amendments to establish the south and east beltway corridors are "good decisions for the future of our community."
"This is an important moment in time for Lincoln," said Wesely. "For over 40 years, Lincoln has at least considered building a beltway. Finally, we have taken action to turn that dream into a reality. I am proud of our City Council, County Board and Planning Commission, who each voted their support. I am proud of the city and county staff and consultants who have spent the past six years studying this issue and preparing this proposal for a south and east beltway to connect with the west bypass and I-80 to form a beltway around Lincoln. History was made last night, and I commend those who had the courage and vision to take this bold step into the future."
