Mayor Calls for more "Snow Buddies" To Volunteer
|
Randy Jones, director of the local Red Cross Chapter, shoveled his way to the new
Eiseley Branch Library January 31 to remind people that "snowbuddies" are needed
to volunteer to shovel sidewalks for those unable to do so. To sign up, call
the Red Cross at 441-7997.

City Receives Grant for Community Learning Centers
|
Mayor Wesely visited with students
eating breakfast at Elliott Elementary School January 24. The
before-school activity is part of the Community Learning Center
(CLC) program at Elliott. The city has 13 CLCs and has just
received a technical assistance grant to maintain them and to
establish more programs.

Plans Announced for City's Second Abraham Lincoln Celebration
|
Mayor Wesely announced plans January 17 for the city's
second annual Abraham Lincoln Celebration Sunday, February 10
at the Lied Center.

Mayor Wesely donates blood at the Community Blood Bank
|
After declaring January 2002 as National Volunteer Blood Donor Month, Mayor Wesely donated a
pint of blood at the Community Blood Bank. Locally, 150 units are necessary every day
to meet the demand. To make an appointment, call 474-1781.

Nebraska Task Force One Will Head to Olympics
|
Fire Chief Mike Spadt and Mayor Wesely announced January 4 that Nebraska
Task Force One, based at the Lincoln Fire Department, will be in Salt Lake
City, Utah February 10 through 17 to serve as emergency responders if
needed at the 2002 Winter Olympics. All expenses will be covered by FEMA.
