|
Mayor Wesely presented the Mayor’s Arts Awards June 5 in a ceremony at the
Lied Center. Award winners received sculptures created by local artist Eddie

Firefighters Honored for Tower Rescue
|
The "Tribute to Courage" event May 16 honored the team from the Lincoln Fire
Department who recovered an accident victim from a television tower in Bassett
April 22. From left are Governor Mike Johanns, who presented team members
with Admiralships in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska; Mayor Don Wesely
who issued a proclamation declaring May 16 Firefighter Recognition Day; Rod Bates,
General Manager of Nebraska Educational Telecommunications, who presented the
Fire Department with a plaque of appreciation; Fire Chief Mike Spadt, who
presented team members with medals of valor; and the six team members - Deputy
Chief Ron Kennett, Captain Rick Klein and Firefighters Bob Borer, Jeremy
Hosek, Mike Wright and Guy Jones.

Mayor Announces Major Public Art Project
|
Mayor Don Wesely and the Lincoln Arts Council (LAC) announced the
beginning of a new public art community project called "Tour de Lincoln"
on May 6. Area artists will start with a steel sculpture of a bicycle
and will add their own unique touches to the pieces, which will be
displayed throughout the community. The project will also raise an
estimated $200,000 for charity, local artists and the LAC. Click on photo

Mayors celebrate National Trails Day
|
Lincoln Mayor Don Wesely and Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey join bicycing enthusiasts
in celebrating National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1. The Mayors of
Nebraska's two largest cities participated in the ribbon-cutting and dedication
of the Platte River Bridge that will eventually connect the two city's
trail systems.
