Mayor Kicks Off Neighborhood Initiative

Mayor Beutler announced the Stronger Safer Neighborhoods Initiative at a news conference March 6. He was joined by,
from the left, Scott Baird, Near South Neighborhood Association; Cathie Petsch, Lincoln Community Learning Centers;
Police Chief Tom Casady; Michael Snodgrass, NeighborWorks Lincoln; (Mayor Beutler); Rick Carter, Human Services
Federation; Wynn Hjermstad, Urban Development; new Mayoral Aide Jon Carlson; and Lynn Fischer, Real Estate Owners
and Managers Association.

Homeless Grants Awarded
March 6, 2008
Mayor Beutler was joined by representatives of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at a news
conference March 6 to announce that five local agencies will receive a total of $1.6 million in grants for homeless
services. Pictured are, from the left, Reggie Robinson, HUD; Topher Hansen of CenterPointe which received three
grants; Clifton Jones, HUD; and Mayor Beutler. Others receiving grants were the Lincoln Action Program, St.
Monica’s, CEDARS and Catholic Social Services.
