Nebraska Task Force 1 (NETF1), the Urban Search and Rescue team based at Lincoln Fire and Rescue, has been deployed to Moore, Oklahoma to assist with search operations in the wake of yesterday's deadly tornado. The full 82-member team arrived in Moore this morning, and Fire Chief John Huff said they began work immediately.
The task force is comprised of firefighters from both Lincoln and Omaha Fire Departments, as well as civilians members who are doctors, structural engineers and heavy rigging specialists. The team also includes five canine search specialists with six dogs. Huff said the length of the team's deployment has not been determined. Teams from Texas and Tennessee also have been deployed.
NETF1 previously responded to tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri in 2011, Little Sioux, Iowa in 2008, Greensburg, Kansas in 2008, and Oklahoma in 1999 as well as many other incidents and events.
