Household Hazardous Waste Collection Set for March 21

First 2014 collection event is by appointment only

Lincoln and Lancaster County residents are encouraged to clean out unwanted chemicals and participate in the first Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) household hazardous waste collection event of the year from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 21. The event is by appointment only.

Appointments can be scheduled by contacting LLCHD at 402-441-8021 during regular business hours. Callers will be asked to identify the types and approximate quantity of waste they plan to bring, and will receive details on the location of the event. Reservations are limited.

Accepted items include pesticides, household cleaning products, paint thinners, stains, polishes and waxes, turpentine, oil-based paint, pool cleaning chemicals, flea and tick powders, rodent poison, charcoal starter fluids, mixed or old gasoline, brake or power steering fluids, and items containing mercury such as CFLs and thermometers. Items NOT accepted include latex paint, motor oil, fertilizers, gas grill cylinders, pharmaceutical waste, electronics and batteries. For information on recycling these and other materials, check the "Guide to Recycling" at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: recycle). No business waste will be accepted.
