The Friends of Pioneers Park Nature Center invite the public to a fund-raiser at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 13 at the Pioneers Park Nature Center, 3201 Coddington Ave. "Beer, Brats and Bees" will include dinner, music by Synkope, an evening stroll through the Nature Center trails, and a presentation on the importance of bees. The evening will conclude with s'mores around the campfire. Beer and wine will be offered with dinner, which includes brats, salads and dessert (vegetarian option available).
This will be the third consecutive year the Nature Center has held a fund-raiser of this kind. "We expect the program on bees to be as popular as past presentations on birds and bison have been," said Nature Center Coordinator Nancy Furman. "Attendees can discover some of the many different kinds of bees that live in Nebraska, whether or not they all sting and why there is so much concern for the reduced numbers of bees."
Tickets are $25 for members of the Friends of the Pioneers Park Nature Center and $30 for non-members. They can be purchased at the Nature Center or by calling 402-441-7895. The money raised during the event will help fund habitat improvements and hikes for over 12,000 local school children.
Sponsors include Leon's Gourmet Grocer, Blue Blood Brewing Company, Glacial Till Vineyard and Carlos O'Kelly's. For more information on Lincoln Parks and Recreation and the Nature Center, visit parks.lincoln.ne.gov.
