StarTran has been recognized for having the highest percentage increase in ridership among urban public transit systems in Nebraska for 2014. The Federal Transit Administration Region VII presented an award of excellence to StarTran at the Nebraska Association of Transportation Providers Managers Workshop in June. StarTran ridership increased from 2,445,148 to 2,479,363 last calendar year, an increase of 1.38 percent.
"This award recognizes our loyal riders as well as the StarTran staff who have worked hard to increase ridership," said Transit Manager Mike Davis. "As we proceed with the Transit Development Plan, we are looking at opportunities to improve our service to the community, and I encourage the public to participate in the planning process."
The Transit Development Plan (TDP) will guide the delivery of public transit services in Lincoln over the next five years. The process includes a comprehensive evaluation of the current route design, service levels, ridership and customer amenities to help determine how effectively existing transit services are serving the community. The study is scheduled to be completed by December 2015, with changes implemented in the summer and fall of 2016. More information is available at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: TDP).
