The public is invited to the annual Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11 at the Auld Recreation Center in Antelope Park. The event is sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Garden Advisory Council. The ceremony is preceded by a Veterans Day March which begins at 9:30 a.m. just west of Memorial Stadium and ends about 10:30 a.m. at Auld.
Speakers will include City Council Chair Trent Fellers; Diane Bartels, who will speak about World War II Aviator Evelyn Sharp; Kirstie Garnes who will celebrate her father's service; Vietnam Veteran Matt Jones; and Ron Lechner, Chairman of the Veterans Memorial Garden Advisory Council. The ceremony will also include a Quilts of Valor presentation by Julia Schroeder.
Retired Army Chaplain Col. James Hoke will give the invocation and benediction, World War II Veteran John Brown will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and VFW Posts 131 and 3606 will provide the color guard for the event. Music will be presented by the Lincoln Ukulele Group, Kevin McKinney, Xak Black and Midwest Sound.
Those attending are invited to bring memorabilia for display and tables if needed.
