The Pioneers Park Nature Center invites the public to two programs in December:
Christmas Bird Count for Beginners, noon to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, December 16
This is a family-friendly, novice introduction to the Lincoln Area Christmas Bird Count. Participants will enjoy a walk around the Center while learning basic bird identification and the reason for the event. The National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count is one of the longest standing community science programs, taking place nationwide between December 14 and January 5. This will be the 119th year for the count. Participants will meet in the Chet Ager Building. There is no fee.
Winter Solstice Hike, 4:30 to 5:30 pm, Friday, December 21
Celebrate the beginning of winter with a hike to view the winter wildlife. The event is open to all ages, and children must be accompanied by an adult. The program fee is $4 per person, and the registration deadline is December 19.
