Access to Lancaster Event Center Will Change During Havelock Avenue Construction

Visitors can avoid construction by planning ahead.

Lancaster Event Center (LEC) visitors will be able to access most of the facility's gates during construction on Havelock Avenue, between North 84th and North 90th streets. All Havelock Avenue traffic between North 73rd and North 90th streets will detour to Cornhusker Highway (Hwy. 6) via North 70th and North 98th streets through July 19. Digital message signs will post changes at the construction site, and signs will be posted along detour routes. Updates and entrance maps are available at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: Havelock).

LEC visitors may access and exit the facility two ways:

The street closure is part of a larger project to increase safety and improve traffic flow at the on Havelock and at the North 84th and Havelock intersection for those entering and exiting the LEC. The project was scheduled so that the benefits could be enjoyed in time for LEC's hosting of the National High School Finals Rodeo in July 2020 and 2021.

"The widening of Havelock north of the LEC has been long hoped for and will be much enjoyed by Lancaster Event Center visitors to make their entrance and exit much more convenient, especially during our larger events, as we continue to see growth in visitors," said Amy Dickerson, Managing Director of the Lancaster Event Center. "We truly appreciate the support from the City of Lincoln on this project, which will benefit both our local visitors and will make it easier for our out-of-county visitors to get in and out of the LEC to visit local businesses and attractions during their stay."

In addition to resurfacing and widening Havelock Avenue near the LEC, turn lanes will be expanded or added at the North 84th and Havelock Avenue intersection and at LEC's gates on Havelock Avenue. Other improvements including installation of a new traffic signal at North 84th and Havelock Avenue; building new storm drainage systems; upgrading sidewalk ramps and street lights; and installing a new water main.
