Bennett S. "Abe" Martin was a prominent Lincoln businessman, civic, and political figure in Lincoln for many years. He served as Lincoln's Mayor from 1956 to 1959 after a term on the city council. With his wife, Dorothy Bridgmon Martin, contributed to many public improvements in Lincoln and were noted for their many philanthropies, including the endowment that allowed construction of the library that bears the family name. Other contribution made where the Lincoln YMCA and YWCA, Children's Zoo, Junior Golf Course and Clark Jeary Memorial Manor. Mr. Martin served on the Lincoln Power Review Board and the city's Air Base Reactivation Committee. He was twice a delegate to the National Republican Convention. Died January 3, 1975 |
