Street Tree Voucher Program
The City of Lincoln Parks & Recreation Department offers a cost-share assistance program, when funding is available, to property owners in Lincoln who desire to purchase and plant a street tree (s) on the city right-of-way adjacent to their property.
Interested property owners must contact the Forestry Section of the Lincoln Parks & Recreation Department at 441-7035 to provide the address of their property where they are interested in possibly having a street tree(s).
Forestry Section personnel will then check addresses to see if there is adequate room to plant street tree(s) and to accommodate their development and anticipated mature size. The correct determination of street tree type(s) and planting location(s) will be done by Forestry and no-fee street tree planting permits will be issued which are good for one year.
Street Tree Voucher will also be issued with each street tree planting permit. Voucher will have a specified redeemable value for each street tree(s) specified on street tree planting permit. Voucher may be redeemed at designated local participating tree nurseries towards the purchase and/or planting of street tree(s) specified on street tree planting permit and in accordance with the Street Tree Voucher Program requirements and restrictions. Voucher is also good for one year.
Please note the following requirements of the Street Tree Voucher Program:
Voucher recipient must be property owner who lives in Lincoln.
Street Tree Voucher must be signed by BOTH the Recipient and Participating Nursery when redeemed.
Green copy of street tree planting permit must also be submitted with street tree voucher when redeemed by Recipient at participating nursery.
Recipient must purchase with voucher a tree having at least a one (1") or larger trunk caliper and must be well branched with fibrous root system.
Vouchers may NOT be combined to purchase one large street tree (i.e. if voucher holder has a voucher for two street trees then two street trees must be purchased).
Benefits of the Street Tree Voucher Program:
Greater number of local tree nurseries to purchase street trees from.
Greater street tree diversity/selection.
Planting in fall (best) or early spring can take advantage of possible free planting of street trees purchased at participating local tree nurseries.
Better information provided on proper tree planting/care.
Voucher recipients can match or exceed cost-share assistance to purchase and/or plant better street trees which can increase their property values and Lincoln's community forest.
