James D. Calhoun, was a newspaper editor and early supporter of William Jennings Bryan. His large Queen Anne style house was built in 1889-1890 from a design published in 1887 in Shoppell's Modern Houses, demonstrating one of the significant ways in which architectural ideas and fashions were spread.
