Lincoln's population burgeoned from about 13,000 in 1880 to 55,000 in 1890. Among the new, urban building developed in the booming city were a small number of row houses–multi-story homes, each with its own entrance, sharing party walls. The limetone-faced Lyman Terrace, like Lincoln's other row houses, was soon divided into apartments.
