Guy A. Brown House

Guy A. Brown House

Boundary/Address:
221 S. 27th Street
Designation:
National Register

Year Built:
1874
Only about a half-dozen houses remain in Lincoln from the city's first decade. The Brown House is an unusual version of the Italianate style, with a facade gable above a projecting entrance, and a paneled cornice, rather than the typical brackets. Guy Brown served in the early state government of Nebraska as State Librarian and Clerk and Reporter of the Supreme Court. The much larger Queen Anne style house just south of 219-221 South Street was built by Guy and Mary Brown just before his death in 1890.
