Draft West Haymarket Site Concepts

Draft Site Concept A
Draft Site Concept B
Draft Site Concept C
Draft Site Concept D

The community's vision for the future of West Haymarket continues to evolve. Under the tutelage of the West Haymarket Action Team (WHAT), four draft design concepts for the potential redevelopment of the West Haymarket area have been crafted and preliminarily reviewed. These draft design concepts are intended to serve as illustrations of how a civic arena, convention center, hotel, and other uses could be integrated into the greater Haymarket environs.

No decisions or commitments have been made about how this public-private development in the West Haymarket should or will be laid out.

WHAT wants to hear from the residents of Lincoln on what they believe is the best concept to serve present and future generations. The members of the West Haymarket Action Team see their role as stewards of the community's interests. They believe strongly in the imagination and visionary talents of Lincolnites and are reaching out to the community for their comments by presenting these draft concepts.

The latest four concepts represent a conscious effort on behalf of WHAT to fulfill a range of community objectives. Some of these include:

  1. a robust respect for the existing context and future viability of the Haymarket district and its historic structures;
  2. a strong desire to further expand the pedestrian character of the Downtown;
  3. a firm commitment to utilize existing and programmed infrastructure to keep taxes and utilities rates down;
  4. an absolute belief in keeping Postal jobs in the Haymarket by not designating the existing Post Office site for redevelopment; and
  5. a sincere passion to fashion a joint public-private endeavor which will create new jobs, new private investment, and new memories.
