The Lincoln Police Department is pleased to recognize Jacob Hausman as the 2008 Volunteer of the Year. Jacob began volunteering in the Forensics Unit, saddled with the very mundane task of filing. He quickly demonstrated a willingness to learn more and was eventually assigned more complex tasks within the Unit. In order to successfully complete the added tasks, Jacob attended and completed a Fingerprint Pattern Recognition course, which provided him training to scan archived finger and palm prints into the state Automated Fingerprint Information System. Additionally, Jacob has been trained to utilize the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ E-trace system, which requires knowledge of where to obtain specific information from a firearm and to correctly identify the manufacturer. Taking on these added tasks made Jacob a valuable asset to the Unit, as his thirst for experience through his work freed the ID specialists and technicians to concentrate on fingerprint identification and to question and process documents submitted in the form of evidence. Jacob was also utilized by the Management Services division to assist with the recent accreditation process and to archive old department photos and documents. The department is very proud of Jacob’s distinction as a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his furthered dedication to higher knowledge by utilizing the GI bill to take night classes in order to secure a college degree in business. For the reasons listed above, it is clear to see why Jacob Hausman is presented as the Lincoln Police Department’s 2008 Volunteer of the Year. |
