Citizens Academy


Citizen Academy

The Lincoln Police Department believes a community and government partnership is important to providing services and meeting the demands of a growing population. When the community and police become cooperating partners they form a joint interest in community concerns and issues. The Lincoln Police Department's Citizen Academy is one contribution to this important partnership.

The purpose of the Citizen Academy is to build a better understanding between citizens and the police through education.

Participants of the Academy become familiar with the operations of the Lincoln Police Department and will gain a deeper understanding of the policies and laws guiding officer's decisions.

Academy participants meet once a week for nine weeks. Information-packed classes include criminal law, domestic violence, criminal investigation, traffic enforcement, lethal force, K-9 demonstrations, narcotics, gangs, DWI and a ride along.

The training program consists of classroom and "hands on" experiences. Participants will also work in discussion groups on issues of training, community policing and police services.

The program looks for individuals who want to commit both time and energy toward a better understanding of law enforcement and who:

The Lincoln Police Department's Citizen Academy is part of a continuing program to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the role of law enforcement.

The Citizen Academy offers an opportunity for individuals from all segments of the community to experience first hand many decisions & duties law enforcement officers face every day.
