The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a one vehicle fatal accident that occurred on Monday evening, March 20th 2006 at 11:30 p.m. A 1993 Blue Chrysler Concord was eastbound on Highway 2 approaching 40th Street when it lost control and struck the light pole on the southeast corner of the intersection of Highway 2 and S. 40th Street.

The vehicle was driven by Matthew P. Kaufman, age 32, who was injured and is currently admitted to Bryan LGH West for observation. The passenger in the vehicle was Michael S. Wright, age 33, who was killed in the collision.

Alcohol involvement by the driver as well as speed are apparent factors in this accident. The driver, Matthew Kaufman said that he was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, Michael S. Wright was not wearing a seatbelt.

This accident is still under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
