Burglary from Lincoln Home puts guns on the Streets

On February 23rd 2006 there was a burglary from a residence in the 3700 block of LaSalle. Forty-eight guns were taken in this burglary and from arrests this week and information that the department is receiving, we believe that these guns have been distributed throughout the city and are in the possession of those with lengthy criminal histories. The following incidents have been connected to this burglary.

February 28th A short police pursuit is followed by a SWAT standoff with Xavier Maldonado, age 28 at the Value Place Inn at 22nd & Fletcher. This incident is connected with the burglary of weapons. Maldonado was arrested for discharging a firearm prior to the standoff.

February 28th The SWAT team is used to serve a warrant at 2244 S. 9th Street when information is received that the residents have weapons taken in the burglary. Steven Luedtke, age 30 and Patrick Schulte, age 29 are arrested and one gun is located at this address. Schulte is believed to have distributed several guns to others in Lincoln.

February 29th Information is received that Jonathan L. Thomas, age 19 and Ashley Elmshauser, age 18 are at the Travelodge at 56th and Cornhusker and that they are in possession of guns taken in the burglary. Both were contacted as they were leaving the motel and two stolen shotguns, taken in the burglary, were located. They were both arrested in connection with the burglary.

The investigation of this burglary and the recovery of these stolen guns is a top priority for the department at this time. Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Crimestoppers at 475-3600.
