DUI TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT SUMMARY

The Lincoln Police Department organized a special traffic enforcement project during two separate weekends in October to remind citizens that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

On Friday and Saturday, October 24th- 25th 2008 and Friday, October 31st, from 10:00pm-3:00am, officers saturated designated areas focusing on drivers who were impaired or committing traffic and safety violations. This increased enforcement resulted in the following citations:

11 Driving under the influence
7 Driving under suspension
5 Minor in possession
10 Open container
4 Possession of marijuana
3 Possession of drug paraphernalia
6 Other misdemeanor arrests
48 Official traffic citations
60 Traffic warnings

The project ended with a safety and sobriety checkpoint conducted from Saturday, November 1st at 10:00pm until Sunday, November 2nd at 1:30am. A total of 698 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on N. 48th Street, Francis Street-Garland Street. One hundred seventy three (173) of those drivers were contacted by officers resulting in the following citations:

10 Driving under the influence (one .02 violation)
1 Driving under suspension
12 Minor in possession
6 Open container
1 Possession of marijuana
1 False information
1 Possession of stolen property
14 Official traffic citations
4 Traffic warnings
