Union Bank Robbery Cleared
At 8:55am on April 24, 2009, Lincoln Police were sent to Union Bank, 4800 Normal Boulevard, on the report of a bank robbery. A male entered the bank wearing a rubber Halloween mask, a wig and gloves. He was armed with a handgun and demanded money. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount. Fortunately, no one inside the bank was physically injured.
An alert citizen watched the suspect leave and provided dispatch with a vehicle description and direction of travel. Officer Brian Ward spotted the car, a white 1993 Buick Regal, at Normal and South. He followed the vehicle and activated his overheard lights. At S. 28th and Sumner, the driver jumped from the vehicle with his hands up. At that point, the passenger slid over and took control of the car. A vehicle pursuit was initiated. The suspect continued north on S. 27th even after striking a median and another vehicle. He was taken into custody just north of 27th and Randolph at 9:01am.
The weapon used during the robbery was located on the front seat of the vehicle. The stolen money was recovered in Geoffery Daniel Essay's pocket. He has been cited and lodged for Robbery, Use of Weapon to Commit a Felony and Fleeing to Avoid Arrest. The man that jumped from the vehicle has been released. No citations have been issued to him at this time.
