Toilet Paper Bandit Captured
The Lincoln Police Department investigated a Robbery that occurred on Saturday, April 24, 2010. At 10:35pm, a convenience store clerk was smoking outside Kabredlo's, 1445 S. 17th Street. Suddenly, an unknown man approached from the east side with toilet paper covering his face. The suspect brandished a knife and demanded money from the safe. The clerk gave the disguised suspect an undisclosed amount of money. Canine handler Vollmer and his partner, Brix, tracked the suspect's scent for approximately ½ block west, where they located some toilet tissue on the ground. The track continued across S. 16th Street and then went cold. A witness reported she walked up to the business as the toilet papered man was inside the store. As she approached, he locked the door and shook his head no. She left and quickly called 911.
During the course of the investigation, a confidential informant advised police that twenty nine year old Joshua Nelson was responsible for the crime. On May 2, 2010, we received additional evidence linking Joshua Nelson to the robbery. A resident in the 1500 block of Washington Street discovered several rolls of coins similar to those taken in the robbery, a knife consistent with the one displayed by the party responsible, and a prescription pill bottle with the name 'Joshua Nelson.' All of the items were lying near the front porch of the home.
Joshua was located on May 8, 2010 and interviewed. He was subsequently lodged for Robbery and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.
