Underage Drinking Project Complete
On August 31, 2013, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team initiated a project aimed at impacting underage drinking and the illegal activity associated with it. Uniformed officers and plainclothes officers patrolled the North Bottoms neighborhood focusing on alcohol related disturbances and impaired driving. The first phase of the project concluded in September.
On October 5, 2013, the Lincoln Police Department initiated the second phase of the project by saturating the North Bottoms neighborhood in an attempt to reduce binge drinking and alcohol related offenses. The project ended November 29, 2013. Funding for the second phase of the project was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
During the second phase of the project, officers issued one hundred and ninety three criminal citations, twenty one traffic citations and eight warning citations. Forty four (23%) of the criminal citations were for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. One hundred and forty seven (76%) of the criminal citations were for an alcohol related offenses (this includes the Minor in Possession tickets).
