Husband Arrested in Wife's Death
At 12:09 p.m. on April 21, 2014, Lincoln (NE) police officers were called to 8101 Meredeth Street on a check welfare. Bettina Burklund did not arrive to work, which was unusual. Her employer and a family member spoke with police after they could not reach Bettina Burklund at home or on her cell phone. Officers forced entry into the residence and found 41 year old Bettina deceased. Evidence at the scene indicated that her death was a homicide.
Bettina's husband, 41 year old Kent Burklund was not home at the time of the discovery. His vehicle, a 1985 Ford F-150 truck, was not in the garage. Investigators learned that Kent Burklund enjoyed fishing at area lakes. Lancaster County Sheriff deputies assisted with searching local lakes and recreational areas. At 2:30 p.m., a deputy located Kent Burklund, with his vehicle, at Conestoga Lake. Kent Burklund was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently transported to Lincoln Police Department headquarters and interviewed. Kent Burklund was lodged at the Lancaster County Jail for 2nd degree Murder and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.
This is the 3rd homicide reported in Lincoln in 2014.
