November Rate Adjustment Update
Last November, the City of Lincoln implemented a market driven approach to reduce waiting lists and distribute the downtown parking demand more evenly. This approach has proven to be beneficial not only to the under utilized garages, which saw a 37% increase in monthly parkers, but to the Downtown as a whole. City Parking Manager, Ken Smith said,
"That by adjusting rates in the downtown, it has created a shift in the parking demand through individual economic choices in the parking system. The adjustments have had a positive impact on our waiting lists and has allowed us to serve more customers."If you are interested in viewing these results and other relative parking information look for the 2005 Parking Annual Report coming in February 2006.
Park to the Future
Downtown Lincoln continues to be the region's foundation for culture, education, commerce, entertainment, and politics. As the densest area of employees, residents, and students, there is an increased demand for parking availability. The Lincoln and Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan is not lost on this fact. The Plan focuses on developing both traditional and creative ways to design and maintain a healthy parking atmosphere. On-going studies seek to produce efficient methods of parking utilization, whether constructing state-of-the-art parking garages or re-striping on-street parking lines to allow back-in angled parking for greater visibility when exiting stalls. The future of parking in Lincoln expects to be the safest and most productive possible.

It's Not Too Late to Make a Resolution!
Beginning each New Year, millions of Americans resolve to change something in their lives. Whether to quit a vice or reach a new goal, January 1st is the time-honored starting point. But since half of those who made a New Year's resolution will have abandoned it within the first month, now is as good a time as ever to change your habits.
Here are 7 tips to make your second resolution more successful:
- Examine your motivation to change - Resolutions are made during the holiday season, a time when we overindulge in eating, drinking, and spending money. Now that you're back into your regular routine, ask yourself what needs to be changed and start there.
- Set realistic goals - Be honest with yourself, you can't lose 30 pounds in two weeks. If you change habits gradually, you'll be more successful.
- Focus on actions - If you want to lose weight, concentrate on your diet, not a specific number of pounds to lose in a day. Making sensible choices throughout the day will leave you more satisfied.
- Embrace sensations of discomfort - Any resolution will cause physical or mental stress. Redefine these unpleasant feelings as opportunities to improve yourself.
- Never negotiate with yourself - Make tasks part of your routine, so don't skip an early morning workout or sneak a cigarette once in a while. If you make your resolution no more negotiable than getting up for work, you'll be successful.
- Learn from your mistakes - No one's perfect. If you happen to give in to temptation, learn from it and move on.
- ACT NOW!! - If you're waiting for a better time to start, you won't find one. Tomorrow never comes if you keep saying it today.
