Share the Road Downtown Lincoln Bike Lanes are Here!
Downtown bike lanes are now located on 14th Street for 'L' Street to 'R' Street northbound and on 11th Street from 'Q' Street to 'K' Street southbound.
The bike lanes are for the exclusive use of bicyclists. Motor vehicles may cross over the bike lane to move into another appropriate travel lane, to enter or exit on-street parking spaces or to enter or exit private property, but motorists are not to use the bike lanes for continuous travel down the street.
Here are some tips for motorists and bicyclists to keep in mind while 'Sharing the Road.'
BICYCLISTS
- Bicyclists must obey all traffic laws.
- Bicyclists must travel in the direction of the vehicular traffic in the roadway where the bike lane is located.
- Yield right-of-way when entering a street from an alley, building or road to all pedestrians and vehicles approaching on sidewalks and roadways.
- Do not obstruct other bicyclists from passing in the bike lane. Riding single file in the bike lane is recommended.

- Obey all stop control and traffic signals, just as all other vehicular traffic must do.
- Always wear a helmet.
MOTORISTS
- Drivers must obey all traffic laws.
- Drivers must yield to oncoming bicyclists just as you would to oncoming motorists.
- Bicyclists are not restricted to the bike lanes or the right lanes of traffic.
- A bicyclist may need to change lanes to make turns or continue through an intersection.
- Avoid turning directly across the path of a bicycle traveling in the same direction.
- Do not use bike lanes for continuous travel.
- Do not park, stop or interfere with the use of a bicycle lane.
Fun Facts About Valentine's Day
The expression "wearing your heart on your sleeve" comes from a Valentine's Day party tradition. Young women would write their names on slips of paper to be drawn by young men. A man would then wear a woman's name on his sleeve to claim her as his Valentine.
According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated one billion Valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, after Christmas.
Men buy most of the millions of boxes of candy and bouquets of flowers given on Valentine's Day, but 15% of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day.
Worldwide, over 50 million roses are given for Valentine's Day each year.
