New Technology at Ironhorse and Que Place

We've recently taken the opportunity to implement some exciting new technology at the Ironhorse flat lot. As you may have noticed, the gate to Ironhorse is now operated by credit card, saving you the time of waiting behind the parker who has to dig through their ash tray to find enough nickels and dimes to cover the entry fee. Now, one swipe of the credit card on the way in and one swipe on the way out is all it takes to get everyone into the lot and on their way to enjoying the Haymarket.

Like our staffed garages, the Ironhorse reader takes Visa and Mastercard. When a parker swipes their card on the way in, the system begins to tabulate the time spent in the lot, when the parker swipes out, the time is totaled and the appropriate charge is made. With this technology comes a new fee system: $1.00 per hour with a maximum of $2.50 maximum for every twelve hours.

For those who park at Que Place, the credit card technology is being used in a different way - Que Place event prepays are now credit card friendly. The readers used for the Park it Downtown cards and Park-n-Learn cards will now read and charge a credit card (again, Visa or Mastercard) a flat $3.00 pre-pay rate. Now that you won't have to wait behind customers who pay with their credit cards at the end of the night, you should get out of the garage a little faster.

We hope you will enjoy the benefits to come from each of these new technologies, should you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact us at 402 / 441-6472.

From Our Lunchbox to Yours

Employee recommendations. We all work downtown - the monthly parkers and the cashiers in the booths. Lunch time comes every day for all of us, so we thought we'd share a few of our favorites.

"You can't find a better Reuben in Lincoln than the one at Bison Witches."
Betty Brown, Cornhusker Square

"Noodles & Company is great."
Jodi Panko, Que Place

"Lazlos is really good."
Traci Lehl, Haymarket Garage

"I love Doozy's and Great Wraps and they're really good to us in the garages. Dennis (at Doozy's) and Matt (at Great Wraps) are really great guys. If we can't get out for lunch, they'll send their delivery guys to bring us food."
Deb Hernandez, University Square

"Nha Trang has the best rice noodles."
Callie Whitlock, Market Place

"I love Yia Yia's pizza, and the fact that I can call my order in ahead means I don't waste my lunch hour waiting for my food. I can't think of a better slice of pizza in Lincoln than the Northern."
Kate Jenkins, Manager

Kevin is as assistant coach for his son's soccer team. If he has any free time left after work and spending time with his kids, he likes to watch action movies.

Thank You for Parking With Us

In the past couple months, you may have noticed the occasional event in the garages in which a cashier attempts to give you something other than your usual mint. No, there's no hook, or hidden cost - this is just a way that we can show our appreciation and say thank you for parking with us.

So what kinds of things have we been doing? In May, we handed out breakfast goodies at Que Place and Market Place. In June, we handed out cold bottles of water to parkers on their way home from work or on their way to Jazz in June.

What will we be doing next? For our next customer appreciation events, the cashiers at all the garages will be handing out American Flag decals starting the weekend before the July 4 and July 24, we'll be at Center Park handing out cold bottles of water on your way home from work, so stop by and say hello.

Meet the "Newbie"

Our newest manager, Kate Jenkins, knows a thing or two about parking. Jenkins, who was promoted to Public Relations Manager in May, started with Republic Parking in the booths in March 2006. Her responsibilities now include co-writing the newsletter, providing customer service support, and working to increase the visibility and reputation of the City owned garages. Along with her new job duties, she will be finishing her degree at Nebraska Wesleyan University in December.

Remember

During Nebraska home football games there are a set number of stalls for monthly parkers on a first come first serve basis. If a particular garage is filled we will direct you to another city garage. Thank you for your patience.
