- Be extra cautious around school crossing areas slow down and watch for children on the way to school.
- Allow children waiting at a crosswalk to cross.
- When using an intersection where children are trying to cross, make eye contact with the children to determine what they are going to do next.
- Before entering a crosswalk, be sure there are no children in the lane or in adjacent lanes.
- Before negotiating a right turn on red, check for children on the right.
- When passing a parked vehicle, check for children who may dart out into the street.
- When approaching a stopped school bus with the stop arm extended, motorists from either direction must stop and remain stopped until the arm is retracted.
- When approaching a school speed zone with flashing yellow lights, reduce speed to 25 MPH and maintain it until the end of the school zone.
