Where is the Public Works/Utilities Department located?

The Public Works & Utilities Department is one of the largest City departments. It is made up of many Divisions, which are spread throughout the City.

What Divisions make up Public Works/Utilities?

Business Office
Administrative duties of Public Works/Utilities; oversees the City owned Parking Garages as well as the Water & Sewer Billing Operations.
Engineering Services/Street & Traffic Operations
Designs and oversees the construction of storm sewers, water mains, sanitary sewers and street improvement projects; Provides a safe and efficient street system which is compatible with present and future land uses; Maintains streets, storm sewers and public drainage ways and is responsible for snow removal and other maintenance functions.
Water Production & Distribution
Responsible for the production and treatment of the City's water supply according to EPA Standards. Maintains all pumping station equipment and distribution lines.
Wastewater, Solid Waste & Recycling Operations
Operates two plants. The Theresa St. plant is located near 27th & Theresa and the Northeast plant is located near 70th & Cornhusker; The Recycling Office reduces the amount of trash taken to the landfills.
StarTran
Is a City-owned bus system which provides city wide transportation to the residents of Lincoln and Handi-Van services and coordinates a taxi program for elderly and handicapped patrons.
Watershed Management
Encourages sustainable growth by upholding responsible standards that maximize safety, minimize flood damage and conserve natural resources.
