16th Street Reconstruction from "A" Street to "F" Street
This project provides much needed road repairs and will improve conditions of 16th St. between "A" and "F" streets.
This section of 16th St. was identified as needing improvements by the city’s pavement management system, which rates the overall conditions of Lincoln’s roads.
The existing base and asphalt roadway will be removed completely and reconstructed with concrete pavement.
The sidewalk ramps in the project area also do not currently meet federal and local standards and will be reconstructed.
The existing traffic signal at the intersection of 16th & “D” streets will be removed because traffic data indicates it is unnecessary, and a flashing beacon will be installed to facilitate safe pedestrian crossings.
Additional infrastructure improvements will be completed alongside the 16th St. Reconstruction Project.
- Existing water mains that have exceeded their functional life expectancy will be replaced on “D” St. between 12th St. and 20th St, as well as within the 16th St. project limits.
- Storm sewer improvements will be made along the project route to improvement the drainage conditions.
Anticpated Project Schedule
Construction of the project began March 1, 2017 and is anticipated to be substantially completed by August 2017. Work pertaining to utility relocations for street lighting and overhead facilities were completed prior to this project.
Access During Construction
The reconstruction of 16th St. from "A" St. to "F" St. will be completed under full road closure to ensure the work is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Driveways and alleyways along 16th St. from "A" St. to "F" St. will also be closed for the duration of the project. Southbound traffic on 16th St. will be detoured east along "G" St. to 17th St. and south to "A" St. The detour will require temporary modifications to pavement markings along 17th St. to accommodate two-way traffic.
16th Street Project Traffic Plan (68 K)
Resident access to property is a key consideration in the construction plan. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Property owners and tenants can access their properties by parking along local side streets and using existing sidewalks. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, with alternative routes provided during the reconstruction of sidewalk ramps.
